Mass Air or SD

I have 89 2.3 and i was wondering is it ma or sd? Also what years was the mass air put on? Just wondering.

It's SD. I think the MAF 2.3's started in '90 or '91,which is when they went to the dual plug heads.

:agree: I think it was '91 because Mag's 90 is speed density.

I had no idea.

my old 90 2.3 hatch was a sd and my 91 coupe 2.3 was MAF

What all is the diff between the standard 2.3 and the svo 2.3? Other than the turbo just motor wise. I plan on taking my 2.3 and putting a turbo on it, not wanting a whole lot of power just something to play with.

i think the whole motor is diff. block (drain back tube for turbo) crank, rods, pistons and head. they say the 8 spark plug head flows good with a little work and exhaust seats.

so i need to find a svo motor or turbo coupe motor? Would that be the best bet?

blue90lx 05-21-2009 09:38 PM

Do you know a link that compares the engines or one that i can go deeper into this?

SlowJoe 05-21-2009 09:40 PM

finding a turbo motor with a good head will be hard to do. i have a block with fresh 20 over bore, crank, and fly wheel. i think waypastcrazy has a set of rods only thing needed for short block would be a set of 20 over pistons.
