7.5 inch rear question
drivetrain specialties sells a detroit locker ,good gears and axles aswell as a rearcover girdle....how much could our rearends take with these parts installed....I know theres a board member or two that have been known to break the 7.5....lol any answers would be appreciatted....

The ring and pinion is the weak part of the 7.5 in my experience, from the ones that I've destroyed.
|
i would not put any money in a 7.5 because 8.8 is so easy to swap. i seen one bust the spider gears and it was not that bad of car.
|
I think a 7.5 would last awhile behind a turbo 4

The 7.5 is a pretty tough rearend. I've seen them get abused behind 302's in '85 GT mustangs as well as behind some pretty strong 2.3's. And let's face it, the 8.8 can have issues too, if things are not setup right. I wouldn't hesitate to put good parts into an SVO 7.5 rear.
(And remember: the LS1 camaro/transam also has a 7.5" ring&pinion) |

I had a 79RS with a 302 and an SROD, The tranny died first then after a few T5s the rear end died and took a set of 3.73s with it. Similar situation but it wasn't a Wal-Mart, It was the back parking lot at my old HS on a concrete apron with a set of slicks.:chug: Thats when I went to a C4. |
