wiring question
This isn't mustang related, but wiring is wiring. I washed the underside of my car today. After letting it sit for awhile, I went to start it and nothing. No beeping, starter clicking, nothing. I jumped it off, let it sit for awhile and took it for a 10 min drive. Drove great.
When I got back, I turned the car off. I noticed the seatbelts didn't retract, and I put the key back in to try & recrank it, nothing. Did I short something out? Would that cause my battery or alternator to fail? Any help would be appreciated. edit: Forget to add. the 2nd time I jumped it, it ran for 3-4 mins and died. Kinda leads me to think alternator. Had the battery test, tested good. Put it back in and it fired right up. I'd still like to know what's going on. |
Re: wiring question
Sounds like a short of some sort. Did you happen to spray the engine bay at all?

Re: wiring question
I've cleaned under the hood before. I think the distributor was about the only thing I covered. I didn't have any problems.
It may go away once its fully dry under the hood. Oh, I've seen that you are supposed to start the car and warm it up to dry it as soon as you are done washing it. |
Re: wiring question
I didn't spray the engine bay at all, just under the rear susp. That's what had me confused.
Once I put the battery back in, it cranked, ran, took it for a drive, all was fine. Turned it off, cranked back up, let it run, then killed it. |

Re: wiring question
Is your battery located under the hood, or somewhere else?

Re: wiring question
Battery is in the engine bay. I doubt it could be the fuel pump relay since it's in the trunk.
Easiest solution would be not to do that again :D |
