I just read what happened, that totally blows. What is he doing to it now, pulling the heads to investigate?

Could it be parhaps that he some how f'ed up the chain and it came off, there...

Are the gears specific side to side?
Are the followers on the valves shimmed at all?
Can you measure the intake lobe and feed that back to the supplier to make sure you have the correct parts?...
