What are the plans for the car? The c4 will handle the power cheaper meaning less expensive to build. Aod can take the abuse depending on the size or your wallet.

If the car sees more street and highway use than track use I would use an AOD.
If it is just an around town cruiser then go with the c4.

Good advice. I have had both and that overdrive is really nice to have.

I built an AOD once that had the wide ratio gearset from Ford Racing (essentially a 4R70W w/o electronic control) with a Lentec electric valve body with a switch wired in the cab to turn O/D on and off. It was very nice. Ive never had any dealing with the C4, but Ive heard you can build them to be bullet-proof. I like having O/D for the street though.

Nope. Same driveshaft works for the T5, AOD, and even the C4... although it could stand to be lengthened a little bit for the C4. Run a loop anyways, just for safe measure.

Especially if you're running anything lower than 3:55's in the rear end.
