Friggin rocker arms clacking
Ever since I put my engine in I have had this clacking problem. Hes a long story short.
Engine- from a friends car, ran flawlessly, I put it in my car now. Specs- supposed to have an F303 I think otherwise. Comp cam hardened pushrods (elcheapos) stock length and stock rocker arms supposed 600lift springs also. E7 heads , stock style lifters. No shims under rockers cept the factory "U" shape shim. Problem no matter what I do the rockers on bank 2 seem to rattle and tap. Yesterday I pulled one rocker arm and where the fulcrum sets in the rocker looked a little scared so I replaced with a spare to see what happened. Results that one tapped louder. Today I pull the comp pushrods out and replace with stockers and put everything together and torque rocker bolts to 28ftlbs. Result still ticking and tapping like it always did. I do not suspect lifters bleed down cause they are hard to push in with rocker arm or pushrod manually by hand. So now I am grabbing at straws here. Should I remove the stock style rocker shim? I have never heard of someone doing that. |

You need to check your pushrod length with a pair of adjustable pushrods.

Pull the valve covers and take a couple photos for us. Overhead shot of the valvetrain and one down lower so we can see the side view geometry.

Be careful if pushrods are to short the rocker arm could be hitting retainer and crack it thus drop a value.if to long they could cause the bottom of spring retainer to hit the vale guide boss where the value seals sit.was something changed? like head gaskets, heads shaued etc etc because these could change rocker geometry alse the guide boss has to be milled down with some of the aftermarket retainers or when adding lift.i am sure i missed something but you should get the point be careful. post us up some pics
