Can you turn slotted and dimpled rotors?

I have slotted and dimpled rotors and my pads are just about gone. Should I have my rotors turned or just put new pads on? Which pads should I go with, less dust would be great and I never open track this car.

Paul at SVP sells the Stillen stuff. They have a non-metallic, low dust pad that performs well!! Check with him.

Oh, and I'm not sure on turning your rotors, but he'll be able to help you with that also.

He's SVOPAul here so you can PM him. That's the best bet probably. Or you can go to www.svpu.com and try and call him at the shop.

Actually, they are called Metal Matrix pads and are metallic pads as are most OE pads these days.

I would think you would not be able to turn crossdrilled rotors since the holes are chamfered for stress relief. Not sure on dimpled or slotted. Do the slots have chamfers?

Re: Can you turn slotted and dimpled rotors?

unless you have warpage or a lot of wear on the rotors there's no need to turn them......but if you did turn them....the slots would be useless and they would start stress cracking around the holes because they're thinner and the chamfers would disappear

better to go with a softer, more rotor friendly pad and change those more often if you only use the car as a dd than to have to change expensive rotors.... trade off is more dust.... but we all wash our cars pretty often anyway so it's no big deal for me....i use a duster every day on my wheels when I get home for the night anyway so it doesn't build up.....what kind/size are the brakes anyway?

Re: Can you turn slotted and dimpled rotors?

Best thing to do is to call the manuf. of your rotors and ask them. But you should turn rotors when you put new pads on.

If you do replace your rotors, don't get dimples. Dimples = waste of money. The most you'll need is slotted, non-slotted are fine for most everyone.

any brake shop should be able to.
