Solid Cam Results
Hey guys, havn't posted here in a while but figured I would share my recent dyno results with you all. I have been wanting to see what a solid roller would rev to on my setup for a while now. Finally tested a couple cams on the AFM dyno several weeks ago and here are the results showing the best one.
I am pretty happy with the way the car revs with the solid roller in there. Pulls to 9,300 rpm without a hint of valve float. I had to export the data vs. mph and convert to rpm because we lost the tach signal during the solid tests for some reason. Hence the Excel plot. The solid cam plotted is basically the same specs as the hi-rev hydraulic cam from last year. I have generated a comparison graph at the following link http://www.the-arnolds.net/Cobra/sol...v-dyno-800.jpg A few notes: - The red curves are from last year (AFM Hi-Rev hydraulic and Kooks headers). - Green is the interim test we did with the shorter custom long-tube headers designed by Mark Lelchook at Performance Welding. These headers are 1-7/8" to 2" stepped design to a 3-1/2 inch collector (about 26-29" primarey length, or approximately 10" shorter than the Kooks from last year. - Blue is the solid cam with the custom headers. - For the solid, I went with Pac Alloy 1326 springs set up with ~300 lb on seat and 800 lb open. - A note on compression ratios. The solid tests were performed with a thicker head gasket putting compression a ½-point lower (14.35 to 13.85). There was some evidence the pistons were just kissing the heads from last year. - The solid gained back almost all the torque I lost with the custom headers below 6,800. - All in all, should pick up some at the track and I feel these results are a testament to the AFM Hi-Rev cam technology. It has been so blasted hot here in St. Louis I havn't been able to get to the track yet. |

interesting torque range, while the curve is nice I would have thought you would be pushing at least 80 more foot pounds through the entire range.
What is the cubic displacement this year. Is it still in the 360 something range or am I thinking of a different year's combo?

It is the same 359 as last year, Lee. What we are seeing is that the Hi-Rev hydraulic cam from last year worked pretty dang good in there. My biggest reason for wanting to try the solid is that the valves were floating the last 300 feet of the race track with the hydraulic last year. Problem solved!
Work has been so damn busy I have been too active on the boards. If the car works good this year, I saw you guys were planning another track rental. We have not been able to take a vacation this year due to work, and maybe I can swing a trip down this fall. Will have to see. |
