tensioner pulley on sn95?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1995-...QQcmdZViewItem
if you notice on the engine pic of this car the idler pulley or tensioner pulley whichever one may call it is gone ( pulley between alt. and powersteering pump). my question is why would anyone do this and has anyone done this here?

Re: tensioner pulley on sn95?

That should be an idler pulley I think. The tensioner is below the alt. I dont htink the cars really need them since the belt doesnt have to go down and touch anything. Id have to look at another one to be sure.

yes that is an idler pulley and imo it is unecessary unless you have a clearance issue. just another part to wear out or break and parasitic drag.... although a very minute amount

Yes there should be a pulley there, however with some aftermarket pullies you have a clearance issue to the water pump pully.

I had kept a pulley there when I did my aftermarkets, however I had to get one that was slightly smaller in diameter.

Re: tensioner pulley on sn95?

I have run without the pulley before there is really not any issues with doing so. All the stock ones are plastic and wear out eventually and Ford in the genius minds decided not to offer the idler as a seperate part number. You have to buy the whole driverside accessory bracket to get a new idler. I replaced mine before with a steel one from Goodyear, but I cant remember the part number right off the top of my head but I got it from Westwood Auto Parts.

Re: tensioner pulley on sn95?

you can get the plastic ones just like the factory ones at auto zone, I had to do that one time to get a small enough belt on the car that wouldn't slip after i did the a/c and smog pump delete, another reason is the clearance on some underdrive pullies as said above.
