Interesting SPEC clutch review...

A guy posted this on turbomustangs.com about his experiences with SPEC clutch. I thought it was an interesting read for more than just clutch choice.

I just toasted a SPEC Stage III after two and a half seasons of pure hell I put it through. The first combination was a A trim 302 that ran 7.0 with 1.42 60', Then I pulled that motor and installed a 363ci R302 based motor and ran 6.86 on motor with a 1.42 60'. Then I added a dual stage nitrous kit and sprayed a 200 shot on it and ran 6.24 with a 1.310 60'. This combination was making 600rwhp and 740rwtq. Then I removed the nitrous and added a YS Trim vortech and made 708rwhp and ran this car on MT drag radials. Slipping the clutch off the line with the newly installed 3.27 gears and 700rwhp finally killed it. Slipping badly, the car still went 11.07 at 130. I cannot say enough good about the SPEC stage III that I had (6 puck). It had extremely light pedal pressure, it chattered for the first 50-100 miles, but then never again. It is by far the best clutch I have ever put in my car over the last 10 years. With my new T76 combo, I upgraded to the Stage III Plus. Once it is in the car and broken in and dyno'd, I'll post up how I like it.

me too. I dont have near that power, but I still cut 1.53 60s, launching at 7200 rpm. It was daily driven as well for over a year w/ the spec. Still grabs super hard...

they got great reviews for a long time and then it seemed all you heard was bad things

but all my friends with them liked them and had good luck with their customer support

Re: Interesting SPEC clutch review...

I'm thinking about a stage III when it comes time to replace the OEM clutch in the Cobra.

Re: Interesting SPEC clutch review...

I tell you. I've seen some of the "bad" ones that they send back to us. There's about 90% problem with the end-user's flywheel being uneven...caused slip, heat, more wear, etc. The other 10% range from mis-adjusted forks/hydraulics to the wrong clutch installed (like turbo eclipse clutch in a non-turbo car or vice versa).

Re: Interesting SPEC clutch review...

joe, the Stg III is pretty burley for a clutch, its massive overkill for my car..

but its easier to shift than my svo.. ..weird..
