Starting Problem!HELP

I have an 87 GT (None MAS air). I just got it and no only that it had a 90 model engine put in it. The Trans was also rebuilt. Odom shows 162K. Engine supposedly had 126K on it.
What it's doing: Usually cranks right up on second try. Then it started doing this: Turn the ignition over, engine turns over but doesn't crank. Try it again and the engine starts and dies immediatly. After that you can turn the ignition switch all day and get nothing. No clicking, buzzing, just dead silence.
What I have tried: Itried jumping the starter solenoid with a screw driver. Engine turned over a few times and finally cranked. Good thing cause I was stranded at the gym. SO, I went and bought a new solenoid. Put it on and tried it. The engine turned over but would not crank. The next try was dead. Turn the switch and get nothing. Tried jumping the solenoid again and the engine just turns and turns but will not crank.
The battery is fine as well as the connections. I do not know where to go from here. HELP!

What do you mean by, "turns over but doesn't crank"

Do you loose all power - dome light, radio, everything - after you try to start it the first time?

just remembered something, they had a factory recall on the 89's for the ignition switch,NOT the ignition lock (the part your key goes to),and when my coupe still had the 2.3,it started the same shit!,I had to literally stop on the road one night, pull the steering column collar off,wad up a handfull of napkins, put them in the collar under the connector and screw it back together, because the connector on the switch was loose, and not making a good connection!,call ford with your VIN,and see if the recall repair was ever done!

I can't smell any fuel. I think I hear the fuel pump, but not real sure. I don't lose power on anything, dome light works, door bell dings, ect.. It's like the switch just doesn't work, but it does every now and then. If it's just the switch, wouldn't it still start by jumping the solenoid? Could it be the switch and the fuel pump?

What I meant by turning over is- the engine is turning but will not run. You know, it's trying to crank, but won't.

the fuel pump relay is wired through the ignition switch in the column, the dome light, and door dinger are wired through the fuse box straight to the battery,I.E; constant power, with that switch recall problem I had with mine,it was identical!,only one side of the plug on the switch was making contact
