Powder coat or paint?
Is it better to powder coat valve covers or paint them?

Powder coat lasts longer and looks better to me, unless you use a urethane based automotive paint with hardener.

I painted mine with car paint. It had a better gloss than powdercoat but would chip easily. My brothers are powerdercoated and look good as well. Going powdercoat mine this go around though

Assuming they are aluminum, neither... Polish them! ...but if you're looking to add some color, powdercoating will be much more durable.

powder coat is more durable but chose your color wisely as it will lose some luster the first time the car is cranked. May want to stick with a silver or gray

I'd powder coat them. Paint is too easy to scratch/chip.

Thanks for your replies. I have a customer who want his valve covers to be orange. I recommended powder coat but wanted to double check myself.

Well after talking to the powder coating guy and the owner, we decided to paint. The owner wanted a particular Orange that could not be replicated with powder. Turned out great, I was quit surprised with the overall results. Here are some pics. I must warn you that the owner is a Huge Auburn Fan.
