As I recall I used paperclips to hold the brushes in place, there was a small hole slightly above the top of the brush when fully depressed that the paper clip could slide into, after the amature is in place remove the paper clips and the brushes snap in place against the amature.

Upon disassembly watch out when removing the voltage regulator because the springs below the brushes can pop out and become MIA, Other than that removing the rectifier bridge is easy but make sure you clean the case very well and don't nick the insulating material on the armature windings.
